I've nicknamed by thesis "Animal," after Animal from the Muppet Show. Because seriously, it's getting out of control. The first chapter—which is just the introduction—is already 20 pages long and I still have another section to add. Perhaps I'm being a bit too ambitious. The Top Gear motto comes to mind: Ambitious, but rubbish. I'm hoping that I can get around the rubbish part.
Anyway, I finished a few things and thought I should do the right thing and post about them.
This is the Triple Cable Muffler (duh) from One Skein. I had a skein of Blue Sky Alpacas cotton and thought I'd do something with it. I think I'm going to send this to my grandpa so he can wear it while he's on his boat.
And here is my completed butterfly tam. It's big enough for me to stuff all of my hair into the back, which makes me happy. I know I never put myself up here anywhere, but my hair is pretty long right now. Take my word on it. I am on run three of growing my hair out to donate to Locks of Love. I still have about two inches to go. Hopefully it'll be long enough at the end of the summer.
I'm realizing now that I never introduced Gretchen properly.
Gretchen is my Singer dress form that I bought from Joann.com a few weeks ago. I posted about it at some point I think. Anyway, her name is Gretchen, inspired by "Gretchen am Spinnrade" (op. 2, D. 118) by Franz Schubert. In my other life I am a vocalist and I specialize in art song. Schubert and R. Schumann are my favorite Romantic composers, and I sing their works often. Something about her singing at the spinning wheel makes me think of making clothes/being crafty, so I thought the name worked well. (What you're seeing in the background of this picture: my tv playing an episode of Futurama, a stack of Futurama DVD sets [with season one of Batman:The Animated Series and The Magnificent Seven thrown in], one of my lockers full of video games, a folded up DDR dance pad, posters for two of the three movies I'm writing about in my thesis.)

First and foremost, Charlie has taken over my chair.
It's now called "Charlie's Chair." Whenever I'm not sitting in it, he is. And when I am, he sits on my lap. I'm not complaining, that's for sure.
I missed the whole "What's on your needles Wednesday" thing. Well, I didn't know it existed until ... today. Soooooo here is a belated WOYNW post. Right now I'm working on a hat.
It's a generic tam pattern, knit with worsted weight yarn. I want it to be a bit slouchier (and I have a big head I guess) so I'm knitting it up on US8 needles, instead of US7. While procrastinating on Ravelry I found a butterfly stitch, so I stuck one on there. It looks a bit lonely, so I may add some embroidered butterflies after I finish knitting up the rest. The yellow is obnoxious and I love it.
Unrelated: straight As this semester, aww yeah. That's three in a row! My MA gpa is a 3.95. Not too shabby. I got one lousy B in a 2 credit class because the professor refused to round up a 89.83% to an A. Thanks.

This is Purl Bee's cashmere cowl, though not knit in cashmere. This is a handspun laceweight yarn I bought off of an etsy store. It's awesome. The color is gorgeous, and this picture is surprisingly close to the actual color. yay
I'm off to work on my thesis, so I may or may not disappear off the face of the internet for a few weeks.

Um, so I had a big paper due Wednesday. It's still not finished. In fact, I might need to completely re-write everything I wrote up previously. I emailed the professor and he said to take my time; I'll just have an incomplete for a while. I'm okay with that.
But this post is about the sweater I'm working on:
Wicked is a top-down sweater knit in one piece. I am quite excited about the prospect of not seaming. I hate seaming. I just finished the shoulder increases, and am working on the main body of the sweater. Once that's finished I just pick up the shoulder stitches and make the arms and viola! Sweater-time. I'll probably have it completed by the end of next week.
I cast-on for a mug cozy by mk carroll, which I'm making my mom for Mom's day. I also bought seven skeins of Vanna's Choice (yes, Vanna White has her own line of yarn ... and it's acryllic ...) to make a giant Doctor Who scarf.
I can't wait to make it. I think I'm going to figure out how to double knit it, so that it has a more professional look. Or something.

Why yes, I did finally finish the biscuit amigurumi for my friend knitmn on Ravelry. The photo doesn't do it much justice, but you get the idea. It's a pillow that looks like a biscuit. I've finished three projects today ... and I'm still completely unmotivated to work on anything remotely school-ish. I'll take The Doctor's advice, I suppose.

Thanks to the wonders of Google I have been able to finish this project. If anyone from the BBC finds this page, I am NOT selling it. This was purely for recreational enjoyment and will hang out on my bookshelf as a piece of obscure Doctor Who memorabilia. Cross my heart.
Now that I feel like I've accomplished something, I should probably do school work. *sigh*

I owe three different people knitting items of various sorts. Actually, five now that I think about it. I'm going to use my "blame school" card on that one. This week is my last week of my last semester in my masters studies. And the time leading up to this has been big-time busy. So. Friday I am mailing out what I owe, assuming they're all finished being knit. Which most of them are. I'm being vague I guess, but if I owe you something you know about it already.
If you're curious, the non-knitting/crocheting, non-vinyl related things I've been working on for the last few weeks are:
- " 'That Rug Really Tied the Room Together': Popular Music and Authenticity in The Big Lebowski." My grand masterwork for POPC 680 "Genre and Authenticity in World Popular Musics." This is my first attempt at an article that isn't a theory article. How I'm going to fill 20 pages without musical excerpts is beyond me.
- Tomorrow I am doing a seminar presentation on Schenkerian analysis and popular music.
- A (Schenker) graph of R. Schumann's "Warum?" from Fantasiestücke, op. 12, no. 3. Apparently this must be accompanied by 750-1000 words about the analysis. Whatever.
- My thesis: "A Fistful of Drama: Musical Form in the 'Dollars' Trilogy." This is indeed about that Dollars trilogy, directed by Sergio Leone and scored by Ennio Morricone. It should be a good read, once I actually, you know, write it.
I guess I do have one knitting-related thing to say here. I was working on an Adipose before the school business began, and then when I went back to finish the arms and legs the pattern was gone. Apparently someone sold a version of the author's pattern, or the resultant toy from said pattern, and the BBC got mad. I'm currently trying to find someone who has it saved so that I can make the arms and feet. If all else fails I'll have to wing it.

After class last night I went to pick up some groceries. I only meant to get soy milk and a new filter for my water pitcher, but there was a sale on frozen fruits. So I picked up a big bag of strawberries.
Now I have six jars of strawberry jam.
It was a mix-and-freeze recipe ... I can't wait for it to thaw so I can have some on an english muffin. yummm
I've also been knitting:
My cousin and her husband had a baby last week (well I guess technically only she did, but from what I understand about procreation he played some sort of abstract role in the whole process), so I made a baby hat. I didn't want to make a lame cutesy one. I wanted it to be cool. Something the other babies would be jealous of. This still needs to be blocked, but you get the idea. I made it with Wisdom Yarns Marathon Socks in Boston on US 2.5 (3.00mm) dpns. I want to figure out an adult sized version. I'd wear it.
This evening I cast on for a pair of simple spring socks. I'm following the 7 sts per inch pattern from Getting Started Knitting Socks. I have a few things that are on the backburner too. I'm an ADD knitter, so?
