I really wish Vox would let you control the size of the images inside of these little boxes it creates.
Whatever. Anyway.
I was in Ann Arbor, MI, a few weekends ago for a workshop on rock music analysis. It was awesome. Ann Arbor is a cool little college town with a handful of wonderful little book shops, including Shaman Drum, which is my personal favorite. I picked up a few titles I had been meaning to get ahold of, and one that just looks flippin' awesome. The two I wanted/needed were Music and Urban Geography by Adam Krims, and Composing for the Films by Theodor Adorno and Hanns Eisler. Krims works at the University of Nottingham (UK), and was the reason I applied there for their MA in Film Music. Which, actually, I was accepted into. Unfortunately, they do not offer funding for their masters students, so there's no way in hell I can manage it. £13,600 a year. That's over $27,000. :( The Adorno is something that I want to check out for my masters thesis. I won't go into details here, but if you want an idea of what my thesis is all about you can check out my academic blog, intheoryonly. I haven't really read any of these yet because I've been studying like crazy for my comp exams, but once I do I'll say a bit about them.
I also picked up some new vinyl, ordered through The Vinyl Collective.
Bomb the Music Industry! - Get warmer
Hot Water Music - No Division
Austin Lucas & Chuck Ragan split 7" (German import ... das ist so schön und so toll!)
Check out how fantastic the vinyl is for the 12"s.
The BTMI! LP is on clear vinyl with white platter and looks really sweet. The HWM is on grey vinyl with multi-colored platter, which is also pretty wonderful. I wish there was a better way to show how great they look in pictures. You really have to see it in person to appreciate how great they are.
One last thing I'll mention here is that I finally saw O Brother, Where Art Thou? yesterday. What a great film. The music is terrific and the actors are spot-on. I generally don't like George Clooney, but he was awesome. I'm off to find the soundtrack!
Be kind, rewind!
