Which I say because I still don't really know anyone in Austin, so I just sit around at home listening to records, watching movies/baseball, and knitting. I guess it could be worse? I really need to meet some people, though.

Here are some pictures of knit things.

cabled cowl

This will eventually be a cowl. It's a bit slow going because I'm ADD when it comes to knit projects and following two charts at the same time is a bit of a pain. It's going to look flippin' awesome when it's finished, though.

This is another Rose Red by Ysolda Teague. I made one back in July, but I made the mistake of packing it in the box that the moving company lost. So I'm making myself another one. Same yarn, same pattern, same size, same everything. It's still blocking at the moment.

It's okay! I have two copies of the Ampere - All Our Tomorrows End Today 10". And it's just yarn and water. It'll be fine.

And for the record (ooh am I witty or what), I have now completed 51 projects this year. That's pretty good I think. And the quality of what I knit has increased dramatically over this last year, so I feel pretty good about that.

I am just so proud of myself. I was working on this great capelet pattern on my own, no pattern or anything. I used top-down raglan calculations, cast on, worked back and forth for an open cardigan style, did kfb increases, 2x2 ribbing, the whole shebang. But then it was a GIANT. It was seriously so big and droopy. I don't understand how. My gauge must have changed as I knit. I thought, what the hell, blocking will help, right? No. It didn't. So then I said, fuck it, I'm felting this badboy.

And then it was magically perfect. I mean, it felted SO easily. All I did was wash and dry it with a load of towels. And it felted up so beautifully. And it fits perfectly! The back is a bit short, but I really like how it looks. I need it for when I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding later this month. The weather in the Chicagoland area is supposed to be in the 60s ... after acclimating to this 95 degree weather in Texas I am going to freeze my bum off up there. So I'm hoping this helps.

As always I have a few things on the needles, but the memory card for my camera broke two weeks ago so it's been hard to document correctly. Also, blocking takes forever. BUT. I finished my Clapotis.

I might give it to my mom for Xmas, but I'm not sure yet. I had some dyelot issues so one of the ends is a tad darker than the rest. I dyed it with some black cherry Kool-Aid, which actually did help, but didn't help enough. So we'll see. I may buy some nice Lorna's Laces or something to make another one for her. I think she'd like it. I can't really do anything until my fellowship money comes in, though. Oh ... that will be a glorious day.

The textures are just great, and I loved the colors in this yarn (from the swap I mentioned before). I can't wait for it to cool down so that I can put this to good use. I do hear it gets a bit cold here, down to the 30s or so. Perfect for cowls.

I finally did it. I made my own pattern.

Finished size:
28cm/11” from cast-on to bind-off edges
Yarn:
Rowan Wool Cotton (50% Merino Wool/50% Cotton; 113m [123yd]/50g): 2 balls. Color shown: SH900.
Needle(s):
4mm(US6) 16” circular needle or dpns.
Notions:
Stitch marker (m), tapestry needle
Gauge:
22 sts/30 rows = 4”/10cm in St st.
Skill Level: Intermediate.
Note: I tend to make cowls large and droopy because I love pinning them. The stitch pattern is in groups of 15 sts, so feel free to cast on less if you want a smaller circumference cowl.

I am seriously flipping out over tomorrow's Doctor Who episode. Although I have to admit, I am more concerned about Jack, Gwen & Ianto, and Sarah Jane than I am about Ten's pseudo-regeneration or whatever may happen. Please don't let Sarah Jane die! ah! ;_;

I wanted something quick to knit, and it turns out this was incredibly quick to knit.

calorimetry 2

I made it while sitting at work watching The Sarah Jane Adventures. The last time I made a Calorimetry it took two nights and turned out gigantic. So, this time, I cast on 96 stitches instead of 120, and I worked on US7s instead of US8s. And the size is perfect. I didn't bring buttons or my darning kit with me, so I can't put it in properly (hence me holding it on). But I lurve it.

This is also my 33rd (!) project of the year. I hit my goal. Go me! Now I'm off to see if I can hit 50 projects before the end of the year. I think I can do it.

Well, not really. BUT! I finished my One Skein Wonder, and am in love with it.

That second picture may or may not be of me. I'll let you decide what you want to believe. This makes my 30th project, so I'm pretty close to the 33 mark and it's just hitting the half-way mark of the year. SO. I am upping the ante to 50. I think I can do it. 50 projects in 2008.

Also, I found amazing Futurama computer icons. Check it:

Al Gore's head is my Documents folder, because he clearly needed to be the most important thing on my computer. Bender is the downloads folder ("Warning, perform virus scan? I'm waiting for porn over here!!").

Morbo as my harddrive (just because he's awesome, as is my computer), Malfunctioning Eddy as my Windows partition (ooooo, burned Windows!), my external harddrive is the InfoSphere (seems logical), and Professor Farnsworth is my Time Machine drive ("So many loves half-loved. So many inventions half-invented. That damn time machine alone set me back 15 years.").

I have some other folders set with Futurama icons as well. My School folder is Wernstrum, my Knitting Patterns folder is Zoidberg (see my user icon for reference), and my Home folder is Clamps ("It'll be clamp this, clamp that, badda-climp badda-clamp!").

If you couldn't tell by my entry titles and constant references, I definitely am big enough of a Futurama freak to do this. And spend lots of time reasoning out who should be where and why. Now I'm off to watch "The Lost Adventure."
